Hey there!
My name is Lindsay Douglass and I'm a New York-based designer with a passion for consumer products and story-telling. I'm fueled by building things that induce delight, whether they are robust applications, simple interactions or brand that people "just love". I currently lead digital strategy at an e-commerce company called Free x Rein, where we harness our customer's unique passion for a niche industry with a focus on the full customer lifecycle and a deep understanding of the user-experience to drive sales, organic growth and customer loyalty.
I consider myself equal parts entrepreneur and designer, and believe that the two go hand-in-hand. I spent four years at design school summer camp (also known as Stanford) and am a champion for human-centered design. I've always been a visual thinker and am notorious for whipping out Sketch mid-conversation.
A prototype says a thousand words and I work every day to become a better story-teller, because I don't think there's anything more powerful than a group of people all driven by a cohesive story and mission, and I'm the type of designer who loves to get people on the same page and create platforms that inspire action.
I'm wildly aware of my short-comings and failures, (if you haven't read my Stanford advisor Bill Burnett's life-changing book Designing Your Life, do yourself a favor and order it now). The most productive thing I ever did was learn to reframe my failures/flaws/short-comings, which ultimately helped me understand and develop my design philosophy. When I cook, design and think I’m wildly messy and disorganized. I thrive in the exploratory phase and love to create chaos. Building a website? Instead of outlining the UX in a structured hierarchy I love to create absolute mayhem. I start with an idea, work on it, abandon it, save it, start a new idea, show it to people, throw it away, start over with post-it notes, upload them to social media, dig up the trash, tape together six abandoned direction, you get the idea, absolute mayhem. My design philosophy is that innovative and magical design can never be efficient and linear, even for the most experienced and disciplined designers. I’ve learned first-hand that the most exciting results come from drawing outside of the lines and not being scared of making an absolute mess and then coming back with a broom and some duct tape after you’ve let yourself and your team go wild.
It may take a lifetime to become a great designer but it only takes a moment for a regular person to identity between good and great design.
I've built and designed a lot of things in my life, some of which are in this portfolio, but if you're short on time, I would have you look at The PonyApp Community Page. I'm proud of my technical skills and the quantifiable results of my design projects, but there's nothing I'm more proud of that the unquantifiable community that organized around The PonyApp as a brand.
